SMOKY TIGER

Formed in the cold dark tundra of Manitoba, Smoky Tiger has made mere mortals tremble and the skies split asunder! Consisting of a revolving door of like-minded eccentrics from Winnipeg’s many-tentacled music scene swirling around one man (Andrew Courtnage) behind a powerful and intimidating Lowery organ!

THE RECORD

"Clan Grant’s turned out its share of brave fighting men, but few were so brave as Cuthbert”

Smoky Tiger has taken his affinity for gallantry and chivalry and transposed it onto our province’s folk heroes, creating a veritable Manitoba themed Knights of the Round Table.

His new album is an offering to the forgotten players of our not so distant past- gold heist specialists, aboriginal war veterans from Brokenhead, Metis uprising, and Dale Hawerchuk.

Through years of research, pilgrimage and meditations, Smoky Tiger has cast these figures in a semi-permanent balm of overlooked thrift store organs, under appreciated garage band effects, underrated recreational tinctures, and enough vocoded irony to to grab the fickle modern ear for a moment in time.

His new album, Great Western Gold, is certainly one of the more precious and peculiar pieces of art to come out of our city in distant memory. It is truly an offering to the heroes of yesteryear, but one that we can waltz along to in the future.
