In March of 2017, former members of the punk/emo band 1971, Garrett Iverson and Jory Strachan, formed Rust Owl, about a month after the passing of 1971 founding... member, bass player, co-writer and closest friend Cameron Glen Cranston.

As a duo, Rust Owl played their first show on April 17th of 2017 with friends Mmmeats and Miesha and the Spanks from Calgary. The following day Robert Reimer (Mmm Meats) and Jensen Fridfinnson (Eldur) both joined the band on bass and piano/fiddle.

Rust Owl is best described as indescribable. Their music is somewhere between post-punk and Americana; contemplative, yet hopeful. They are loud, yet soft.
“Rust” meaning withered and worn, and “Owl” symbolizing that which is made wise by the wares of time and struggle, Rust Owl is a tribute to those who have experienced life’s most difficult trials and have found the courage to carry on; in constant search to anthem, to guide and aid in any way possible.
